“. . . in everything give thanks.”

(1 Thessalonians 5:18 NET)

In just a few weeks, we will be celebrating – what traditionally happens around a table, with a special meal, with family and friends – Thanksgiving. It is a time of celebrating with others, remembering spiritual and natural blessings, and expressing gratitude for our blessings.

In Psalm 103, King David expresses gratitude and lists the blessings, the benefits he’s received from God. With his life marked by adversity, affliction, kingship, and hardship – David remembers all that God has done for him. Having experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, King David speaks and exhorts himself to bless the Lord. In the listing of God’s blessings, David expresses gratitude and gives God praise.

With Thanksgiving holiday fast upon us, let’s truly observe it by giving thanks. Like David, let’s speak to ourselves and encourage ourselves by remembering what God has done. After feasting, take time to remember all the blessings you’ve received from the Lord.

What has God done for you lately?
