“Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand!” (Galatians 5:1 MSG)

Paul in his letter to the believers in Galatia exhorts them to “. . . live a free life” (Galatians 5:1 MSG). Centuries later, we are still grappling with the question of freedom. After coming into the knowledge that Christ has set us free, how do we live free? How do we, 21st century believers, take our stand and remain free? One of the ways we maintain the freedom that we’ve been given through Christ is by standing on the Word of God and the Promises of God.

When a person makes a promise, they are giving their word that they will or will not do something. Many of us have been on the receiving end of broken promises. Because of our experiences with humanity, we approach the Promises of God similarly. We question whether God’s Promises are for us or we question if God will even keep His Promises to us.

To live free, we must know that God is a Promise-Keeping God. He is faithful to His Word. I love the reminder in Numbers 23:19 that “God is no mere human! He doesn’t tell lies or change his mind. God always keeps his promise”(CEV).

What promise are you “standing on” to help you live free?
